Bulletin SBS, ročník 33, č. 1/2011
Due to immense number of species, difficulties connected with determination and small amount of specialists for different taxonomic groups, our knowledge on spreading of cyano-bacteria and algae on our planet is limited. The paper deals with some problems on terminology, invasive/expansive behaviour or occurrence of these phototrophic microorganisms in extreme environments (e.g. thermal springs, continental saline waters) mainly in the territory of Slovakia.
Keywords: Central Europe, expansion, non-native, phototrophic microorganisms.
Abstract: Spiranthes spiralis belongs to the rarest orchid species in Slovakia. Recently, the species is known only from two locations in the southwestern part of Slovakia and in several sites in the northeastern part of the country. All localities in NE Slovakia are threatened by human activity or by secondary succesion and some populations gradually disappear. In 2010, after 43 years, we confirmed unpublished data on the occurrence of the species in the NW part of Slovakia in the Kysuce region (Snežnica). Six flowering individuals were found there in vegetation of Antoxantho odorati-Agrostietum tenuis.
Keywords: critically endangered species, northwestern Slovakia, orchids, recent occurrence.
Abstract: Occurrence of two rare Trifolium species was confirmed during research of saline pastures on the Podunajská nížina Lowland in 2010. Trifolium angulatum, evaluated as probably extinct (EX?) in Slovakia, was confirmed in Kamenínske slanisko Nature Reserve. The stand was developed on area of ca 25 m2. We re-assessed the threat of the species and we propose to list it in category “critically endangered” (CR). The second one, critically endangered Trifolium retusum, we confirmed in two localities – Siky farmstead near Močenok and Akomáň farmstead near Šurany. In addition, recent occurrence of Trifolium strictum is discussed and new Red list status of the species was proposed.
Keywords: IUCN categories, rare species, saline habitats, Slovakia, Trifolium.
Abstract: Last occurrence of Elatine hungarica Moesz was recorded before 35 years in Slovakia. Therefore, the species was regarded as probably extinct (EX?). In 2010, first locality of E. hungarica was found at the Danube Lowland in temporary field inundation near the village of Okánikovo. Based on our data we proposed to include E. hungarica in IUCN category 'Critically Endangered' (CR).

Abstract: This is a contribution to floristic and vegetation analysis of the region Turiec documenting species richness of the local biota, based on current floristic and vegetation survey. It summarizes the information on the most valuable populations of vascular plants, priority from biogeographical and nature conservation viewpoint. The occurrence of the species Camelina sativa subsp. zingeri, Anthemis tinctoria subsp. subtinctoria and Grammica campestris is confined to the habitats influenced by human activity. The species Aira caryophyllea, Lathyrus latifolius and Festuca brevipila are confined to natural vegetation evolved after historical deforestation of the landscape. Rocky extreme relict habitats support population of Melampyrum cristatum subsp. cristatum. Carex umbrosa and Euphorbia villosa occur in the remnants of wetland vegetation.

Abstract: Research in aquatic and marsh flora and vegetation in the middle reaches of Váh, Nitra, Žitava, and Hron rivers was realized in 2009–2010. Altogether 43 localities (mostly water reservoirs) were visited througout the study area. Macrophytes were observed on 38 of them. Altogether 58 taxa were found (56 vascular plants, 1 liverwort and 1stonewort species). Several rare and endangered plants of the flora of Slovakia were observed: Bolboschoenus maritimus agg., Butomus umbellatus, Callitriche palustris agg., Chara fragilis, Leersia oryzoides, Najas marina, Riccia fluitans, Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani, Trapa natans and Utricularia vulgaris agg. Altogether 22 plant communities were detected. Most of them (10 associations and 2 other communities) belong to marsh vegetation of the class Phragmito-Magnocaricetea, one to stonewort vegetation of the class Charetea fragilis, two to aquatic vegetation of the class Lemnetea and six to the class Potametea. Only one littoral community was classified into the class Molinio-Arrhenateretea.
Keywords: aquatic plants, endangered species, macrophytes, marsh vegetation.
Abstract: Altogether 19 plant communities (classes Charetea, Lemnetea, Potametea, Phragmito-Magnocaricetea and Molinio-Arrhenatheretea) were recorded in 28 artificial water reservoirs of the Štiavnické vrchy Mts and its promontories during field surveys realized from 1986 to 2009. The historical mining water reservoirs are characterised by hydrophytes (Potametea), in recent holding reservoirs prevailed helophytes (Phragmito-Magnocaricetea). The moisture is main ecological gradient, which is responsible for species variability.

Abstract: The paper brings first results of field research in Malá Turecká valley and Mt. Majerova skala in Veľká Fatra Mts. Within two alliances Fagion sylvaticae and Tilio-Acerion three forest communities Dentario bulbiferae-Fagetum, Asperulo odoratae-Fagetum and Mercuriali-Fraxinetum were recognized. The phytosociological aspect of studied vegetation is described and its syntaxonomy is discussed.

Abstract: The article deals with three contested cases in the history of Slovak botany, (1) identity of the author of the contribution „Aus der Flora der Slowakay“ (D. S. 1854), (2) authorship of the manuscript „Príspevky ku kvetne stolice turčianskej“ [Contributions on the flora of the Turiec county] (3) identity of the author of articles in the monthly journal Príroda (Turč. Sv. Martin), writting under the assumed name Migisi.
Keywords: authorship, history of botany.
