Abstract:Taxonomic treatment of the family Asteraceae differs in older systems based on plant morphology and current one, based on molecular biology. Slovak morphological nomenclature of capitulum is designed for systems treating the currently accepted subfamilies Asterioideae and Cichorioideae as different families, and the terminology for other subfamilies is missing. We propose an extended morphological terminology with added Slovak names for new morphological terminology and for taxonomic categories.

Abstract: The paper deals with syntaxonomy and ecology of relict pine forests and xerophilous oak forests in the Nitrické vrchy Mts (western Slovakia). A total of 32 phytosociological relevés were collected in the field in 2010–2011. Based on numerical analyses five associations were distinguished. Communities of relict Pinus sylvestris forests occur at the most extreme, calcareous rocky sites in the Rokoš mountain group. Two subassociations within the association Carici humilis-Pinetum (Klika 1949) Fajmonová et Šimeková 1972 (alliance Pulsatillo slavicae-Pinion Fajmonová 1978) are clearly differentiated, one on cooler shady slopes and the other on warmer sunny slopes. At lower altitudes, at warmer and usually less rocky sites, pine forests are replaced by xero-thermophilous oak forests (alliance Quercion pubescenti-petraeae Br.-Bl. 1932). The association Seslerio albicantis-Quercetum pubescentis Chytrý 1994 is ecologically closest to the relict pine forests. These forest types share many prealpine herb species which do not occur in the more thermophilous oak forests of the associations Lithospermo purpurocaerulei-Quercetum pubescentis Michalko 1957 and Corno-Quercetum Jakucs et Zólyomy ex Máthé et Kovács 1962, which are also common in the area. Further, there are acidophilous dry oak forests of the alliance Genisto germanicae-Quercion Neuhäusl et Neuhäuslová-Novotná 1967, represented by the association Luzulo albidae-Quercetum petraeae Hilitzer 1932. Because of scarce occurrence of siliceous bedrock in the studied area, the latter association is very rare there.

Abstract: The article summarizes floristic findings of mostly threatened and endangered vascular plants from wider surroundings of the town of Myjava. The data were collected mostly during the years 2015 – 2018 with one older record. New localities of 30 plant taxa including Ophrys holubyana, Orchis purpurea, Ornithogalum pyrenaicum subsp. sphaerocarpum (2 new and one re-discovered localities), Epipactis futakii and Ficus carica; or locally rare plants such as Actaea spicata, Linum hirsutum and L. tenuifolium, are presented here. On the other hand, this article presents also spread of invasive species Abutilon theophrastii and Ambrosia artemisiifolia, spread usually by hunters with feed which is used to attract future prey. Unfortunately, previously published locality of Pulsatila grandis was destroyed by plant smugglers, so no GPS coordinates, neither exact locality description of “publicly” interesting species are presented here.

Abstract: The vegetation of Silava locality, Martin city, was studied using traditional Zürich-Montpellier approach in 2017. According to the Electronic expert system for identification of grassland, fringe and heathland vegetation of Slovak republic, four associations were distinguished – Pastinaco sativae-Arrhenatheretum elatioris, Valeriano simplicifoliae-Caricetum flavae, Scirpetum sylvatici and Eleocharitetum quinqueflorae. Floristic and ecological characteristics of described communities, as well as appropriate management measures are given and discussed.

Abstract: New data on the occurrence of synanthropic vascular plant species in the National park Muránska planina (Central Slovakia) are given. The attention is particularly paid to findings of several neophytes in forest ecosystems (Abutilon theophrasti, Ambrosia artemisiifolia, Bidens frondosa, Datura stramonium, Erechtites hieracifolius, Helianthus annuus, H. tuberosus, Iva xanthiifolia, Lupinus polyphyllus). These species have been found mostly close to hunter hides, feed-through and similar stands. Feeding of game animals and crop decoy application in the natural forests in the higher elevations and strictly protected areas seem to be inadvertent and undesirable. New data on the spontaneous occurrence of several alien cultivated ornamental plants in the study area (Aster laevis, A. novae-angliae, A. novii-belgii, A. versicolor, Calendula officinalis, Cerastium tomentosum, Cosmos bipinnatus, Euphorbia marginata, Hylotelephium spectabile, Mentha spicata, Miscanthus sinensis, Narcissus pseudonarcissus, Petunia × atkinsiana, Pharbitis purpurea, Phlox paniculata, P. subulata, Rudbeckia bicolor, Sedum lydium, Tagetes patula) are given as well. One locality of the critically endangered species Silene gallica has been found.
